Despite a lack of evidence, several
media sources have repeated
conservative speculation and
accusations that Democrats secretly
authored a "talking points" memo
that described the Terri Schiavo case
as a "great political issue" for Senate
Republicans. These baseless
accusations, apparently hatched on
right-wing blogs and in conservative
media such as The American
Spectator, were given credibility by
The Washington Post and CNN's
Inside Politics. But as recent reports
indicate, Sen. Mel Martinez (R-FL)
has admitted publicly that one of his
aides is the true author of the memo.
Darling [the Schiavo memo's author]
worked for the Alexander Strategy
Group, a Washington-based
corporate lobbying firm heavily
connected to Rep. DeLay. Darling's
clients included Universal Bearing,
Inc., a company owned by the
Hanwha Group, which has direct ties
to the foreign agent that paid for Rep.
DeLay's improper trip to Korea. The
Korea-U.S. Exchange Council was
created to promote Hanwha Group
Chairman Seung Youn Kim,
according to the New York Times.

The Alexander Strategy Group was
formed by Rep. DeLay's former Chief
of Staff Ed Buckham, who also
introduced Rep. DeLay to corporate
lobbyist Jack Abramoff.  Former
DeLay aide Jim Ellis, who was
indicted for money laundering, was a
consultant to ASG. Former DeLay
staffer Tony Rudy, former DeLay
PAC director Karl Gallant, and Rep.
DeLay's spouse, Christine DeLay, all
worked for ASG.

Rookie Florida Senator Mel Martinez admits
to passing off  Republican Schiavo Memo
RED HANDED!
03.07.05  9:01pm...ENJOY MY MONEY! I
just finished filling out my taxes and my usual
refund has been exchanged with a bill!  My
income has varied over the years l but at no
time did I ever have to pay at the end of the
year.  Some years it was a small refund.
Most years, however there was a big refund.
Not this year :(
[Yes I know it's about how you fill out the tax
form - I have the same job as last year with
the same form]
Grrrr.  Hmmmmm.
Ya know...maybe the genius of the
Republican plan was to get people like me to
complain about my taxes so they can get
away with more cuts.  I guess the wealthy
complained first and loudest.  Now it’s my
turn to jump on the bandwagon. Well, while I
am disappointed I already wrote the check in
and even checked off the $3 election fund
box.

MEL IN A HAND BASKET...So Mel Martinez
is covered in slime once again.  After more
than a week of liberal bashing by the Red
Media it turns out the Schiavo memo was not
a Democratic plot after all!  It was produced
in Mel Martinez’ office, passed to the Senator
and distributed, albeit by mistake, to Pat
Leahy a Vermont Democrat.  This is not Mel’
s first bush with extreme slime.  In fact he
wouldn't be where he is today without it.
You should recall that Mel Martinez, in the
Republican primary for the U.S. Senate seat
he now holds, came out with one of the
dirtiest tricks you’ll ever see in politics.  Bill
McCullum, a (what I would describe as) ‘far
right’ Republican Congressman was leading
the race.  Martinez’ campaign was getting no
where.  So he mis-characterises one vote by
Congressman McCullum - one that would
make punishments severe for those who
commit hate crimes - and turns in into a pro
gay agenda by his fellow Republican
opponent.  The airwaves ( talk radio
especially) were suddenly flooded with
vicious ads and before too long even I was
beginning to think McCullum was a little light
in the loafers.  It was a terrible smear on
someone who was never pro gay rights
anyway. Horrible yes, but this being Red
America, it worked. Now, just three months
in the Senate, he is in the middle of another
mess.  The heartless memo came from one of
his top staffers (who has a long history of
covert campaigns). It was a list of talking
points including describing the Schiavo case
as a “great issue” and a good way to defeat
the other Florida senator - Democrat Bill
Nelson. So we have another one of Bush’s
boys fighting dirty to make sure we remain a
Red America.
